The Lighthouse Announces Impressive Lineup of Speakers for Spring 2018

On Deck Speaker Series Brings Four Distinguished Professionals to Campus Community

From molecular epidemiology of enteric parasites to the fluidity of literary voice, the spring 2018 On Deck Speaker’s Series promises to be informative and thought-provoking.

Sponsored by The Lighthouse: Center for Exploration and Discovery, an impressive lineup of speakers is scheduled to share their professional expertise on topics such as microbiology, religion, environmentalism, economics, and literary theory and creative writing.

Thursday, February 1 @ 11 a.m. in Blocker Auditorium

Dawn Roellig, "What's in this piece of @#%$? A Molecular epidemiology of enteric parasites as a convergence of STEM." Roellig is a microbiologist with the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta. She leads the CryptoNet project, a $300K national surveillance system for cryptosporidiosis.

Tuesday, February 27 @ 11 a.m. in Blocker Auditorium

Jay Wexler, "When God Isn’t Green: A World-wide Journey to Places Where Religious Practice and Environmentalism Collide." Wexler is a professor at the Boston University School of Law. He is the author of When God Isn’t Green: A World-Wide Journey to Places Where Religious Practice and Environmentalism Collide.  Wexler also worked as a lawyer at the U.S Department of Justice and clerked for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg at the U.S. Supreme Court.

Ann Rathbone Bradley, “Can Christians Support Capitalism?" Bradley is the Vice President of Economic Initiatives at the Institute for Faith, Work & Economics where she develops research toward a systematic biblical theology of economic freedom. Bradley also researches the political economy of terrorism with specific emphasis on al- Qaeda. She is an editor of Counting the Cost: Christian Perspectives on Capitalism and For the Least of These: A Biblical Answer to Poverty.

Thursday, April 12 @ 11 a.m. in Blocker Auditorium

Yuri Herrera, "On the Fluidity of Literary Voice." Herrera is an assistant professor of literary theory and creative writing at the University of Tulane. He is the author of three novels: Trabajos del reino (Kingdom Cons), Señales que precederán al fin del mundo (Signs Preceding the End of the World), and La transmigración de los cuerpos (The Transmigration of Bodies).
